KSA 74-5607a(b) requires every full-time officer to obtain a minimum of forty (40) contact hours of continuing law enforcement education or training per Training Year (TY) which runs from July 1st of the current year to June 30th of the following calendar year.
Training hours must meet the following requirements to count towards the 40-hour annual requirement:
- Training must be directly related to law enforcement;
- Must be approved by the agency head prior to submission to KSCPOST; and
- Must be electronically reported to KSCPOST
All officers (full-time and part-time) must complete the KSCPOST Firearms Qualification Course and some form of Biased Based Policing training (KSA 22-4610) as part of the minimum 40-hour annual requirement.
Officers who fail to obtain their 40-hours of annual training may request an extension, modification or waiver of the training hours by completing and submitting a Request for Extension form signed by their agency head. If an extension is granted, the officer must complete the delinquent training hours by the provided deadline, and the delinquent hours are in addition to the 40-hours required for the current training year.
Failure to obtain the delinquent hours by the provided deadline may result in disciplinary action by the Commission, up to and including revocation of the officer’s certification.

Agencies are required to electronically submit training hours for their officers via the Central Registry. Agency personnel designated to enter training via the Central Registry must complete an online training course before KSCPOST will issue them credentials to access the Central Registry.
